The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Nintendo has confirmed the first two actors set to star in the live-action adaptation of The Legend Of Zelda.

Following the success of the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo confirmed it was working on a live-action The Legend Of Zelda film.

The movie is due to hit cinemas May 2027 and will be directed by Wes Ball, with Zelda co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto set to serve as executive producer alongside Avi Arad, a former chief operating officer of Marvel Entertainment.

After a lot of speculation, the first two actors have now been announced via a statement from Miyamoto.

Princess Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason, an English actor who’s previously appeared in The Radleys and Disney+ series Renegade Nell while fellow Englishman Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link. Ainsworth is best known for playing Miles in Netflix’s The Haunting Of Bly Manor and also voiced Pinocchio in Disney’s live-action remake. “I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen,” added Miyamoto.

It was previously reported that Euphoria star Hunter Schafer was being considered for a major role in the movie after she previously said it would be “cool” to play Zelda.

Earlier this month Nintendo confirmed it was working on more films and TV shows beyond the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel and the Zelda adaptation. “Although we cannot discuss our plans at this time, we are working on various other projects,” said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa during a financial call. A few days later, a new copyright filing revealed plans for a standalone Donkey Kong film.

In other news, horror director Zach Cregger has said his big screen adaptation of Resident Evil might annoy gamers.“I’m trying to tell a story that just feels authentic to the experience you get when you play the games, I’m definitely not trying to be completely obedient to the lore of the games,” he explained.
