This Year's Long-Awaited Sci-fi Sequel Was Shut Down and Delayed for 14 Years Due to 'Star Wars'
It has been fifteen years since the release of Tron: Legacy, and fans are finally getting a follow-up in the form of Tron: Ares. While not the sequel some fans might have hoped for, as stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde are not returning, Ares is a loose continuation. That said, screenwriter David DiGilio was hired to write a direct follow-up to Legacy back in 2011. He even maintains a story by credit on Ares, as he created the titular character, originally a villain, but now the protagonist of the new film.
