Watch Wolf Alice debut new songs ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ and ‘Thorns’ in Kilkenny

Wolf Alice have debuted two new songs at their live show in Kilkenny – watch fan-filmed footage below.

The London rock band recently announced their return with their brand new single ‘Bloom Baby Bloom‘ – along with their forthcoming major label debut, ‘The Clearing‘, which will drop August 29 via Sony.

Now, the band have played an intimate new show in Kilkenny. They’re currently playing some warm-up shows in Ireland ahead of their slots at Glastonbury, Primavera Sound and One Big Weekend. The band are due to play in Cork today (May 20) and Limerick tomorrow (21) – fans can sign up with their emails here to get access to the ticket sale.

At Kilkenny, Wolf Alice gave ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ its live debut, and played a brooding new song called ‘Thorns’ as well. Though slower-paced than ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, it’s no less dramatic – this time with Ellie Rowsell showcasing her soaring vocals against a cinematic, waltzing instrumental.

‘Thorns’ has been praised as “amazing” and “FAN-F*n-TASTIC” by fans so far. Check out fan-filmed footage below:

NME reviewed Wolf Alice’s comeback track in a five-star review, writing: “After three albums of building and expanding their world, and experiencing the ups and downs of the music industry, it feels like the band are ready to stake their claim as one of their generation’s most important acts. Now, Wolf Alice are undoubtedly in full bloom.”

Meanwhile, their guitarist Joff Oddie recently joined a government hearing into the state of UK grassroots music, where he warned: “I’m not sure how Wolf Alice would make it work today.”

Recalling their early days as a band 12 years ago, he said touring was “unbelievably tight,” adding that “for years, it was a loss-leader – and that’s typically how it goes. We would sleep on people’s floors when we were outside of London. Most of the people we worked with were doing stuff pro-bono in the hope that if we did start making money later on, then we could commission management, agents, soundmen. I put my student loan into financing a tour.”

Oddie also highlighted “real risks in sending people out on the road in really tight shoestring budgets”, pointing to the tragic deaths of Viola Beach who were killed with their manager Craig Tarry when their tour vehicle plunged into a canal in Sweden.

In other news, Charli XCX, Self Esteem, Wolf Alice and more have signed an open letter of solidarity to trans community.
