Why Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis' 'The Cold Light of Day' Bombed

Back in 2012, The Cold Light of Daylooked like it had all the makings of a box office hit. The film had a rising star in Henry Cavill, fresh off Immortals and soon to be Superman. It also featured Bruce Willis, the legendary face of Die Hard, and sci-fi queen Sigourney Weaver in a rare villainous role. Set in sunny Spain, the film's plot follows Cavill's Will Shaw, a young Wall Street trader whose family is kidnapped during a sailing trip. As he scrambles to rescue them, he is pulled into a dangerous world of CIA secrets, double agents, and a mysterious briefcase that everyone wants. On paper, The Cold Light of Day seemed engineered for the action thriller crowd and the perfect kind of high-stakes thriller, especially with its excellent cast.
