Will Smith and Michael Bay have reportedly fallen out over new Netflix action film
Michael Bay has left his position as director on the Will Smith Netflix film Fast And Loose, with creative differences with the star being given as the reason.
The action film tells the story of a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack and gradually learns that he was leading a double life as a CIA agent. Smith thus far is the only actor attached to the project.
According to an article by The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service is keen to begin production in 2026 and will be looking for a replacement for Bay in the director’s chair. The legendary action filmmaker, known for the Transformers franchise, was said to have joined the production last October.
Bay directed 1995’s Bad Boys, the hit that launched Smith as an action star. The pair worked together on the sequel, 2002’s Bad Boys II. While Bay didn’t direct the recent third and fourth films in the franchise, Bad Boys For Life and Bad Boys: Ride Or Die; he did have cameos in both films.
Once Hollywood’s most bankable star, Will Smith has been rebuilding his career and reputation since the infamous incident in 2022 where he slapped host Chris Rock. The actor has made one film since the controversy, last year’s Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, and is working on more projects for the future.
In April, he revealed a planned sequel to his 2007 sci-fi hit I Am Legend will follow a timeline based on the DVD alternative ending, where his character survived. He has also reflected on hit films of the past he has rejected, making a music video based around The Matrix (a movie he turned down) and discussing why he refused to star in Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
