'Adolescence' and 'The Bear's One-Shot Episodes Are Cheap Tricks
Over the past few years, the one-shot has evolved from a novel filmmaking approach to one of movies and TV's favorite gimmicks. While the technique of making a movie or TV episode's action appear to be one continuous shot (whether actually true or cleverly edited) used to be pretty rare, more and more movies and shows are trying their hand at it, with a particularly noticeable increase on TV. In recent years, TV episodes like "Review" from Season 1 of The Bear, "The Oner" from Apple TV+'s The Studio, and the whole of this year's hit Netflix series Adolescencehave made the practice more common.
