Bachelor in Paradise Just Got More Savage, and Honestly? I’m Living For It

Who remembers Bachelor Pad?

The now-defunct Bachelor spinoff had contestants from previous seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette looking for a second chance at love, all while competing for a massive cash prize.

The series only lasted three seasons before it was replaced by The Bachelor in Paradise, which took away the cash prize and just became about watching singles fall in love on a sandy beach until someone got engaged.

Much like the originals, Bachelor in Paradise always tried to hook audiences in with the possibility that a couple would get engaged at the end of the process.

You could be watching the next great reality television love story play out on your television screens week in and week out if you watched the somewhat lesser version of the original series.

But after several seasons, which did include some engagements, audiences grew a little stale of the show, which just had a revolving door of ex-contestants cycled in and out of the island.

The series needed a reboot of some kind, or at least a change, and that’s precisely what Bachelor in Paradise Season 10 has turned into.

After an almost two-year hiatus, the series is flourishing this season, with singles from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, alongside Golden Bachelors, spending time together in a beautiful Costa Rican resort and falling in love under the glistening heat and suffocating humidity.

While the first few weeks seemed like an ordinary season, things changed when they brought back elements from Bachelor Pad, as the contestants are now competing in challenges with a cash prize of $500,000 on the line.

This season was eventful even without the added element of the money, but introducing it has made the season even more appointment television, even if no one knows how to drag out an episode of television more than this franchise.

At this point, we all know what reality television dating programs are all about.

Yes, there will be success stories. There will be those couples who are destined to meet, fall in love on television, and then take that love out into the real world and have long-term success.

(Disney/Bahareh Ritter)

But even with those successes, we all know that the odds are stacked against these couples.

Instead of living in the fantasy world that everyone will inevitably get their happily ever after, by infusing parts of Bachelor Pad into the Bachelor in Paradise formula, you’ve created a show within a show, almost.

We’re watching these couples, some of whom have been together since the beginning, now figure out how to navigate their connections and how badly they want this money alongside that.

You’re seeing friendships tested, as couples have to decide to play strategically as it relates to now voting out other islanders, or making decisions that will directly lead to others being eliminated.

Do you vote out the Golden couples who don’t have a strong romantic connection? Or do you keep them around because you deem them the “easier” options to beat out?

(Disney/Bahareh Ritter)

Or do you vote out the strongest couples when given the opportunity, setting you up for potential future success?

In many ways, the series has become Survivor meets The Bachelor, and it’s been fun and intriguing to see how each person has chosen to handle a situation they weren’t expecting.

With money involved, priorities and feelings can change.

The series now poses an even bigger question than whether you want to get engaged at the end of this experiment.

(Disney/Bahareh Ritter)

Instead, these couples now have to think about that alongside figuring out what they’re willing to do in the name of $500,000.

The latest twist has injected some life into the series, and we’re to get more seasons in the future, they’d do well to keep it or even up the ante in different ways.

There’s nothing wrong with consistency and sticking to a tried-and-true formula, but sometimes you do need to escape your comfort zone and give the audience something new to nibble on.

We’re nibbling good this summer!

Alright, sending this over to Bachelor Nation, now!

(Disney/Bahareh Ritter)

How are you feeling about this new iteration of the series?

Are you enjoying it?

Or should they go back to bringing in 3735 singles and just waiting for the proposals?

Let me know in the comments below so we can discuss it all, including who you’re rooting for!
