Box Office Round-Up: 'How to Train Your Dragon' Beats '28 Years Later' and 'Elio' To Win Weekend
2025's summer movie season continues to heat up, and two new titles burst onto the scene hoping to find themselves in a three-way race to try and win the weekend box office against the reigning champion, How to Train Your Dragon. Unfortunately, only 28 Years Later ($30 million) actually had an outside shot of dethroning director Dean DeBlois’ remake of the beloved 2010 animated adventure, because this weekend’s other newcomer, Elio($21 million), was too busy setting a record for one of Pixar’s lowest-grossing openings ever. So, as it turns out, No. 1 How to Train Your Dragon easily repeated as box office champion for the second weekend in a row with an estimated $37 million domestically.
