Burning Man’s ‘Orgy Dome’ has been destroyed by harsh winds

Organisers of Burning Man‘s infamous Orgy Dome have announced that the space has been destroyed after sustaining significant damage over the weekend.
“Our build team worked so hard this past week to *erect* our lovely space,” read a post shared Sunday (August 24) by the official Orgy Dome Instagram account. “Unfortunately, the winds yesterday undid all that labor and wrecked our structure. We are still here and thankfully safe, we hope to gift the playa some workshops and will keep you updated.”
They shared a video clip of the wreckage set to Billie Eilish‘s mournful ‘What Was I Made For’, which you can check out below, and said in a subsequent post that what remained of the Dome was “beyond repair”.
One of Burning Man’s most iconic structures, the Orgy Dome, was completely destroyed by powerful desert winds this weekend.
Built each year since 2003, the dome is known as a safe, consent-focused community space at the festival. Organizers said they spent a week building it,… pic.twitter.com/Ul3W2wbElx

The Dome is a space where, according to organisers, “couples and moresomes can escape the dust and heat of Black Rock City” in a “sex-positive, consensual” environment. No phones or cameras are permitted, and guests are required to present physical up to dates IDs.
As noted by Billboard, the Orgy Dome is among several installations damaged following a windstorm that happened over the weekend at the Burning Man site, located in the Black Rock Desert of northern Nevada.
Other reported damage includes a 50-foot-tall art installation titled Black Cloud. Created by a team of artists from Ukraine, it was intended to serve as a symbol of freedom for the country amid its ongoing war.
It comes after Marian Goodell, the CEO of Burning Man called for “urgent” donations as a way to help save the festival amid staff lay-offs late last year.
The week-long non-profit festival has been known to sell out of tickets months in advance, sometimes within 30 minutes of release. Last year saw the festival open ticket sales to non-registered buyers for the first time after experiencing slow sales.
Elsewhere last year, it was reported that a woman had died on the first day of the festival.
