On Tuesday (June 24) the rapper announced her second album ‘Am I The Drama’, which is is due for release on September 19 via Atlantic/Warner – you can pre-order/pre-save album here.
Upon announcement, fans were critical of the fact that the 23-track album will also include her two previously released hits, ‘Up’ and ‘WAP’ with Megan Thee Stallion.
Now, Cardi B has responded, telling fans it will be “the last and only time I’m gonna address this.”
Writing on Twitter/X earlier today (June 26), the rapper said: “WAP and Up are two of my biggest songs, my fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on IOP all the time… they deserve a home..
“I let haters make me not submit WAP for the Grammy’s and at this point I’m giving my fans what they want!” She continued. “These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what are yall even crying about??? Do ya say anything when all these artist pull out all their little tricks and ponies to sell out??? Exactly….Now let them eat cake. Go cry about it!!!”
In 2020, ‘WAP’ broke a record on the ARIA Singles Chart, being the first female-led rap song to land a number one spot in 28 years.
The record was previously held by Salt-N-Pepa’s 1992 single ‘Let’s Talk About Sex’, and before that, the 1991 hit ‘Sucker DJ’ by Dimples D.
‘Am I The Drama?’ is previewed by the lead single ‘Outside’, which arrived last weekend (June 20). The bass-heavy track appears to include digs at her ex-husband Offset and seemingly sees her confirm her relationship with New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Cardi B’s 2018 debut ‘Invasion of Privacy’ scored a four-star review from NME, with Nick Levine writing: “Overall, this is a remarkably confident and compelling debut from a superstar who’s put in the graft. “My little 15 minutes lasting long as hell, huh?” she boasts nonchalantly on final track ‘I Do’. On this evidence, it’s going to last a lot longer yet.”
‘Am I The Drama?’ will be the rapper’s first record since her dramatic split from Migos rapper Offset last year. The couple previously separated in December 2018. Cardi then filed for divorce in 2020, claiming that “there are no prospects for a reconciliation.” A month later, the ‘WAP’ rapper decided not to go through with it. Last year, however, the pair did separate when the rapper confirmed she was expecting her third child.
In March, it was reported that Offset filed legal documents requesting joint custody of the couple’s three children: Kulture, Wave, and their youngest daughter, whose name has not been revealed yet.
He specified in his filing that Cardi’s residence should be the primary home for the children, and asked the court to determine each parent’s child support responsibilities. Additionally, he requested that all the couple’s marital property be split 50/50 and both parties should cover their own legal fees.
