‘Death Stranding 3’ won’t be made by Hideo Kojima

Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has revealed that he won’t be making the follow-up to this year’s blockbuster hit Death Stranding 2.

Kojima created 2019’s Death Stranding after leaving Konami over creative differences. The post-apocalyptic sci-fi game follows courier Sam Porter Bridges as he delivers essential supplies and connects surviving human settlements after a devastating event caused destructive creatures to appear across North America. As of April 2025 more than 20million people had played the game worldwide.

The Death Stranding 2 sequel was released in June and remains one of the best-reviewed games of the year. However Kojima has said he doesn’t want to make Death Stranding 3.

“I am not planning to do [Death Stranding 3] at the moment because the ending of Death Stranding 2 was my finale of 1 and 2.” Kojima said during a recent Death Stranding 2 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (via Gamesradar). He went on to say that he’s already written “the concept of Death Stranding 3” and he hopes “someone will create it for me.”

Earlier this year Kojima revealed that because of the new ‘Plate Gate’ concept introduced in Death Stranding 2, he could make “endless sequels”.

“I, of course, don’t have any plans to do that, but I already have a concept for another sequel. I am not going to make it myself, but if I passed it on to someone else, they could probably make it,” he added.

Kojima is currently working on a big screen adaptation of Death Stranding though won’t be directing it. He is also developing a game with celebrated horror director Jordan Peele and has plans for a new stealth game, codename Physint, though that probably won’t be released until 2023

Recently, the video game creator hit out at the “sad” state of AAA games. “Even the visuals and the systems are pretty much the same. A lot of people enjoy this, I understand, but it is important to put something really new in there for the industry. If there is no risk, there won’t be any good things that would be born.”

“People who are making military games, they probably don’t know how to dismantle a gun or shoot a gun. So that’s kind of sad,” Kojima continued.

In other news, KISSGene Simmons and Paul Stanley have reunited for a World Of Tanks Modern Armor collaboration following the band’s 2023 farewell tour.
