Ethel Cain and Porter Robinson were day one Switch 2 buyers

The Switch 2 launched yesterday (June 5) and some of your favourite musicians made sure to pick up the new Nintendo console ASAP.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was announced earlier this year in a hardware-focused teaser trailer before more details were revealed in April. Despite some grumbling about the new “variable pricing” model Nintendo is using on Switch 2 games, pre-orders for the console sold out within minutes of going live.

However loads of people were successful on getting their hands on the Switch 2 yesterday, including Ethel Cain.

Taking to Instagram she wrote: “Trying to find a fucking Switch 2 today. Is this how y’all feel when my tickets go on sale?” A few hours later she shared a selfie featuring the new console and a copy of Mario Kart World. “Don’t play with me,” she added.

“I want to play Mario Kart with Ethel Cain,” one fan wrote on X. “i just know her island on animal crossing is INSANE i need to play with her,” added another.

Last year, Cain shared a 25-minute YouTube video of her unboxing a special Switch Lite alongside The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom. She also defended 2011’s controversial Skyward Sword. “I don’t care what anybody says. Skyward Sword is a good game. Everybody can eat my fucking ass. The motion controls are fun. Like, just grow up.”

Cain wasn’t the only musician grabbing a Switch 2 on launch day. One fan shared a photo of their midnight launch experience, with them posing next to another fan who appears to be Porter Robinson. “I’m so jealous, imagine being in the queue with Porter,” said one fan. “No way! Congrats on the Switch 2,” wrote another.

Porter Robinson is a massive gaming fan and has written music for League Of Legends.  “I love Nintendo,” he tweeted back in 2014. “I love Smash Bros. I love [influential Nintendo developer Masahiro] Sakurai and and most specifically atm, I’m loving Ganondorf.”

Marvel star Brie Larson also showed off their successful Switch 2 purchase on social media. “Screaming, crying, throwing up. Full unboxing coming soon,” she wrote on Instagram. Earlier this year, Larson revealed she’d completed Hogwarts Legacy on her Switch while performing on London’s West End. She also said she’d finished The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom: “One of the most incredible games I’ve ever played.”

Since the Switch 2 launched yesterday, fans have been praising the “incredible” new console.

Earlier this year, Ethel Cain became the first openly-trans artist to score a top 10 album in the US with ‘Preacher’s Daughter’. New album ‘Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You’ is due out later this year.
