'I Don't Understand You' Review: Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells Are Funny in a Disappointing Dark Comedy

Wise expressions about the circle of life date back to biblical times — "with death comes new life," and so on. A new dark comedy starring funny guys Nick Kroll (The League) and Andrew Rannells (Girls) elevates the concept to new, twisted heights, playing a loving couple who jet off from the States to Italy amid their years-long quest to adopt a child. Like millions of would-be parents out there, their road has been a rocky one. But maybe there is hope as they touch down in Europe to celebrate their anniversary. From writer-directors David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano, the cleverly titled I Don't Understand You benefits from the charisma between the leads and some sharp one-liners. But it ultimately loses its footing in a too-contained universe that doesn't deliver the payoff such a twisted conflict deserves.
