Kevin Parker has looked back at 10 years of Tame Impala’s ‘Currents’, and hinted a new album is on the way.

The artist celebrated the hit 2015 album on social media yesterday (July 17), taking to Instagram to recall his time working on what would go on to be arguably his biggest release.

The post came exactly 10 years since the record was first released and saw the mastermind behind the Tame Impala moniker reveal that he was initially experiencing major self-doubt when it came to sharing the album.

“‘Currents’ is 10 years old today. Really?? It doesn’t feel like that at all. I guess because it’s stayed such a big part of my life since then it still feels fresh,” he began.

“When we play ‘Let It Happen’ live these days I still feel it deep in my soul. I guess also because it’s taken me this long to really appreciate the music,” he added. “I had more than one existential crisis during the making and release of this album. I couldn’t tell if it was great or embarrassingly bad, not to mention the fans I would lose by switching up music styles so heavily.”

He went on to say that he frequently has to dismiss the preconception that he was “feeling pretty chuffed with myself after making this album” because “there was often so much doubt” surrounding it.

“But I knew it was an album I had to make,” he continued. “The lows were low but the highs were high. And during the highs, when I had forgotten to care what people were going to think I’d be driving in my car listening to mixes feeling like it was pure magic, and in those moments I remember thinking whatever the outcome I just had to go through with it, and believe in it even if it felt totally blind.

“Glad I did,” he concluded. “Happy 10th Bday ‘Currents’. Emotional thanks to all my peeps who believed in it with me, you know who you are.”

When it was first shared, ‘Currents’ was given a four-star review from NME which read: “Fuzzed-out guitars simply aren’t where Parker’s head is at now, which strikes us as a fair trade-off from a producer pushing at the outer reaches of his talent.

“From the crisp, hip-hop accenting on the drums to the full-bodied bass and vivd synths, ‘Currents’ is an audiophile’s wet dream.” Check out the full review here.

The update came just days after Parker shared another intriguing post on social media, seemingly confirming that he has another child on the way, and a new album on the horizon.

In the carousel post, the first image shows the songwriter with his wife, Sophie Lawrence, who seems to be very pregnant. The last post then showed a whiteboard that appears to show his progress on a handful of new songs. Each one has all the aspects ticked off, and is marked “DONE”.

If the post does suggest that a new album is on the way, it will be the first from Tame Impala since 2020’s ‘The Slow Rush’, with an EP of B-sides and remixes coming out two years later.

Since that record, Parker and Thundercat collaborated on the standalone single ‘No More Lies’ in 2023, and the former has also featured on songs from Diana Ross, Gorillaz and Justice over the past couple of years.

Earlier this year, he went on to win his first Grammy for ‘Neverender’ – one of his Justice collaborations, and before then, he worked closely with Dua Lipa on her 2024 album ‘Radical Optimism‘.

Recently, Parker hinted at new music while at Primavera Sound last month. “Er, you guys wanna hear a new song?” he asked the crowd at Nitsa Club during a surprise DJ set. “You want to hear a new Tame Impala song? You’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realise. There’s no going back from this point on. Alright, let’s do it. Get comfortable.”
