'Lights Out' Was a Certified Horror Hit, But It Never Got a Sequel
2016 was a strong year for horror movies. The Witch, The Conjuring 2, The Invitation, and Ouija: Origin of Evil are among the few scary movies that made a notable impact in the same year that the MCU and Star Wars franchises dominated the box office. Warner Bros. not only won in horror territory with The Conjuring 2,but also released David F. Sandberg's debut before he went on to make two Shazam! films. Lights Out grossed $149 million at the global box office, based on a viral short that terrified viewers and became an internet phenomenon.
