Listen to Foo Fighters’ brutal cover of Minor Threat’s ‘I Don’t Wanna Hear It’

Foo Fighters have released a cover of Minor Threat‘s ‘I Don’t Wanna Hear It’. Check it out below.
The track comes shortly following the 30th anniversary of the Foos’ 1995 self-titled debut album, which they’ve been celebrating in recent weeks by revisiting their career history on their Substack (dubbed ‘Field Notes’) and sharing clips and photos from throughout the band’s career on social media with the hashtag #FF30.
Now, they’ve unveiled a cover of Minor Threat’s classic hardcore track, which first appeared on their 1981 self-titled debut album. The instrumentation of the cover was recorded in 1995 – around the time of the Foo Fighters’ first LP – while the vocals were cut this year.
Dave Grohl is a long-time follower of the band, and in 2015 shared a fan letter he wrote to frontman Ian MacKaye (also of Fugazi) when he was 14 years old.
Later, Grohl would play drums for Scream, a band signed to MacKaye’s label Dischord Records. Check out the cover, and some more of the Foo’s 30th anniversary celebrations, below.
Grohl has been stepping back into the spotlight in recent months, and in May, it was announced that the Foo Fighters will play their first show of 2025 at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix. He also recently appeared on a new Ed Sheeran track titled ‘Drive‘ for the F1 soundtrack
The band also recently unveiled 2025 world tour dates in Indonesia and Japan, which you can find tickets for here.
The dates come after it was recently announced that Josh Freese had been let go as their drummer, with Freese saying he was “shocked” and “disappointed”. He joined the Foos as their touring drummer in 2023 following the sudden passing of their drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
Taking to social media, Freese wrote that “the Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they’ve decided ‘to go in a different direction with their drummer’. No reason was given.
“Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.”
He later jokingly shared 10 possible reasons why he was “booted” from the band, including whistling “‘My Hero’ for a week solid on tour” and “starting every rehearsal with a 20 minute cowbell sound bath”.
Though Freese’s replacement has not yet been announced, it has been confirmed that Taylor Hawkins’ son Shane will not be joining the band on tour, despite speculation that he might fill in.
The comeback gig in October will also mark the band’s first appearance together since Grohl courted controversy last September when he revealed that he had fathered a daughter outside of his marriage.
Following the news, Foo Fighters subsequently cancelled their scheduled headline slot at the Soundside Music Festival. In December, Hellfest founder and director Ben Barbaud claimed that the band had scrapped a summer 2025 tour, suggesting that Foo Fighters were primed to headline the French festival but were instead replaced by Muse.
In other news, Grohl recently joined Kim Deal for a rendition of Pixies‘ ‘Gigantic’ in London.
