Listen to Sam Fender’s bright new song ‘Tyrants’

Sam Fender has shared his song ‘Tyrants’ online for the first time – you can listen to it below.
The track had previously only been available on the singer-songwriter’s ‘Me And The Dog’ vinyl EP, which was released for Record Store Day 2025 earlier this month. Fender served as the official ambassador of RSD UK.
‘Tyrants’ was also featured on the seven-inch edition of his 2024 single ‘People Watching’, from his third studio album of the same name. As with the full record, the song was co-produced by The War On Drugs‘ Adam Granduciel.
When announcing that the fan-favourite ‘Tyrants’ would be coming to streaming, Fender wrote: “Big love to everyone asking after this one.” He shared the official black-and-white cover artwork for the track too.
The upbeat, rock-influenced ‘Tyrants’ shows off a lighter side to Fender’s sound – boasting backing vocals by Brooke Bentham and a scorching electric guitar solo. It includes the lines: “So rail against the tyrants now/ The ones who rable in your head/ Make something out of the rain/ Raise up a glass to lament the dead/ Love like you’ve never been hurt/ You can’t make them roll with you in the dirt/ So rail against the tyrants now.”
Later, Fender reflects on “the hardest lessons that I’ve ever had to learn“, saying that he “let my ego almost kill me“. Check out the official lyric video here:
Fender has performed ‘Tyrants’ live numerous times, having debuted it during the first night of his European tour in Paris last month. He has also played the song at various North American shows.
Last weekend, he and The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel delivered a joint rendition of ‘Tyrants’ at the second weekend of Coachella 2025.
The War On Drugs have since pulled out of supporting Fender at his huge stadium shows in London and Newcastle this summer. The band cited “personal scheduling issues” as the reason for cancelling the dates.
Fender will headline Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025 in Liverpool next month. In August, he’ll play three big outdoor gigs in Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast, and top the bill at Ireland’s Electric Picnic.

Last month saw Fender take home the Rock/Alternative Act award at the BRITs 2025, where he performed ‘People Watching’ live.
In a four-star review of Fender’s latest album, NME wrote: “Reflective, analytical and vulnerable, ‘People Watching’ does exactly what the title may suggest: takes stock of the characters, friends and loved ones who have made Fender the person he is today.
“He approaches each track with sensitivity as he looks back on his life so far – perhaps even with an inkling of guilt – and contemplates who he may be next.”
