Michael Mann's Most Underrated Movie Also Has Russell Crowe's Most Underrated Performance

The turn of the 21st century was a time of unprecedented success for New Zealand-born, Australia-raised actor Russell Crowe. Each year from 1999 to 2003 (except 2002), he starred in a Best Picture nominee, with two of the four films, Gladiator (2000) and A Beautiful Mind (2001), winning in back-to-back years. During this time, he also got nominated for Best Actor three years in a row, winning it in 2001 for his iconic portrayal of Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator.
