'Mission: Impossible' Director Knows Why His Crime Thriller 'The Usual Suspects' Probably Wouldn't Work Now

Christopher McQuarrie, Tom Cruise's go-to director for many of the Mission: Impossible movies, is an action genre visionary. He has helped the actor achieve the impossible with death-defying stunts that drive millions to theaters with each sequel. However, it's not a secret that he began his career by making totally different movies. The Usual Suspectswas only his second screenwriting credit, and one could argue that it's his most important work to date because it earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Nevertheless, even though it still holds up today, McQuarrie believes the crime thriller probably wouldn't work now. The reason? It would be virtually impossible to keep the Keyser Söze twist from leaking online.
