That worked with Moriarty's Big Little Lies, but showrunner David E. Kelley, typically a master at handling offbeat stories and odd capers—Boston Legal, American Horror Story, Anatomy of a Scandal, Pose—could not capture the right vibe in Nine Perfect Strangers.
