Rage Against The Machine hit out at Democrats and Republicans over ICE Raids

Rage Against The Machine have hit out at Democrats and Republicans over the government’s recent ICE raids.

The legendary funk metal band took to social media to decry the huge wave of ICE’s raids of several workplaces and deportations of countless people for alleged immigration violations. The raids have seen huge protests in LA, where President Donald Trump has authorised the deployment of the National Guard in response.

In a statement posted to Instagram, the band wrote that “in the U.S., both major parties are responsible for the militarized border policies that target and criminalize migrants and refugees”.

They added that both parties “wage wars and impose destructive economic policies that directly result in the migration of people seeking safety and asylum”, and furthr pointed out that “after 9/11, the budget for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) rose by almost 300%.

“This has intensified the racist terror for communities already suffering through family separation, detention, deportation, and the use of “digital prisons” via electronic monitoring,” they wrote.

Concluding their post, Rage Against The Machine finally said: “No government on stolen land should have the power to decide who is “legal” and who is “illegal,” or who lives and who dies.”

Zack de la Rocha recently protested the ICE raids by teaming up with streetwear brand Born X Raised with anti-ICE merch.

Modelling a “Protect Los Angeles” hoodie and T-shirt, the Rage Against The Machine frontman also took to social media to post a statement, reading: “We fight alongside our undocumented brothers and sisters”.

He added that “fascism is lawless,” continuing that the government is “attempting to blur the lines between what is protest and what is “terrorism” between who is an innocent worker and who is a “violent criminal.” This could soon be the norm, whether you’re a citizen or not. To stand with us is to stand up for yourselves.”

De la Rocha concluded his post: “Born and raised in Mexico. Black and brown, no backing us down. Solo el pueblo salva al pueblo. In peace for as long as possible.”

Bandmate Tom Morello also recently attended a protest against ICE and called on people to “defend LA”.

Billie Joe Armstrong, Shakira, Bruce SpringsteenAddison Rae, and Finneas are some of the many artists who have hit out at ICE’s immigration raids.

Elsewhere, Tom Morello has hit out at Trump for insulting Bruce Springsteen: “Fuck that guy!”.
