‘Silent Hill’ star on making terrifying new game ‘f’: “I felt my sanity slipping”

The star of Silent Hill f has said that making the terrifying new horror game affected her sanity.

Silent Hill f is due to launch in September. Set in 1960s Japan, players will follow teenager Shimizu Hinako, who lives in the small, remote town of Ebisugaoka. “An average teen, she passes the time with nothing particularly special about her life. Until, that is, a deep fog descends on Ebisugaoka, and everything Hinako knows crumbles as she finds her once-familiar home infested with spreading danger, the town empty except for the horrors teeming in the fog,” reads a description of the game.

Speaking about the experience of playing Shimizu Hinako, actor Konatsu Kato said (via Dexterto): “I’ve been living as Hinako in the world of Silent Hill for a long time now. “On some days, I almost felt my own sanity slipping, but it was worth it to be able to contribute to this game.”

Earlier this year, horror fans were stoked when Konami shared extensive trigger warnings for Silent Hill f. “Please read before playing: This game contains depictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence.”

“This game is set in Japan in the 1960s and contains depictions based on the customs and culture of that time. These depictions do not reflect the opinions or values of the developers or any individuals involved. If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break from playing or speak to someone you trust.”

“To this day, I remember the feeling of my first encounter with the suffocating and oppressive atmosphere of Silent Hill. It still deeply haunts me, and it still utterly fascinates me,” added Ryukishi07, who created the story for the game. “To me, the Silent Hill series is more than just a collection of stories, it’s a medium; an amazing, phenomenal way of exploring and experiencing a person’s heart and mind. It’s my hope that players out there will come to appreciate it in the same way.”

Silent Hill f will launch September 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

In other news, Ryan Reynolds has shared his thoughts on Neil Patrick Harris playing Deadpool in a new VR video game: “People who steal your signature role are the biggest buttholes of all.”
