Sydney Sweeney interested in ‘Barbie’ sequel with Margot Robbie

Sydney Sweeney has revealed she is a big fan of Margot Robbie and would be interested in starring in a Barbie sequel opposite the star.
A film adaptation of the popular toy line, 2023’s Barbie saw Robbie play the title role of a character living in the idyllic Barbieland who travels to the real world and experiences a culture shock. Ever since it became a billion-dollar hit, fans of the feminist satire have been hoping for a follow up.
One of those people is Euphoria star Sweeney, who put her name forward in an interview with Bustle. “I’d have to read a script, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Margot (Robbie), so I would not be opposed to it” she said.
In 2023, following the film’s success, Robbie sparked rumours of a sequel when discussing the idea with Time. “It could go a million different directions from this point,” she said. “But I think you fall into a bit of a trap if you try and set up a first movie whilst also planning for sequels”.
However, at the end of that year, she shot down the idea while speaking to Associated Press, saying she and director Greta Gerwig “put everything into this one, we didn’t build it to be a trilogy,” adding: “I can’t imagine what would be next”.
In December 2024, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that sources had told them a sequel was in development, with Gerwig and screenwriter Noah Baumbach hammering out an idea for a possible follow up. However, both filmmakers and Warner Brothers denied the claims.
As for Sydney Sweeney, she will soon be seen in Euphoria season three, which she promised will be more “unhinged” than ever. She also made headlines in May by launching a line of soaps infused with her bath water.
