The Actor Who Secretly Saved 'Apocalypse Now'

If that gravelly narration in Apocalypse Now seems eerily detached, almost as if it is a disembodied voice completely disconnected from the character, it is. The narrator's voice didn't come out of Martin Sheen's mouth, but that of another person. The film was almost derailed twice, on two separate continents, by two brothers with the same addiction playing the same character. Ever get annoyed in school when a teacher called you by your older sibling's name? Francis Ford Coppola was banking on just that confusion.
