The Last Dinner Party announce sophomore album ‘From The Pyre’ with new single ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’

The Last Dinner Party are back, announcing details of their second album, ‘From The Pyre’. Check out the lead single ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’ below.
The upcoming album follows on from the critically acclaimed debut LP, ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’, which arrived in 2023 and saw the band go on to win two BRIT Awards.
Set to arrive on October 17 via Island Records, the new LP follows the London five-piece as they push their songwriting into more developed and mature new avenues, and turn their focus to enjoying the process, rather than getting lost in the pressure to follow-up their explosive debut. Work on the album picked up momentum in early 2025, when the members headed into the studio and began recording alongside Grammy Award-winning producer Markus Dravs, who has previously teamed up with huge names like Wolf Alice, Florence + The Machine, and Björk.
“This record is a collection of stories, and the concept of album-as-mythos binds them,” the band have explained. “‘The Pyre’ itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion and light.
“The songs are character-driven but still deeply personal, a commonplace life event pushed to pathological extreme. Being ghosted becomes a Western dance with a killer, and heartbreak laughs into the face of the apocalypse.”
They continued: “Lyrics invoke rifles, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, and blazing infernos. We found this kind of evocative imagery to be the most honest and truthful way to discuss the way our experiences felt, giving each the emotional weight it deserves.
“This record feels a little darker, more raw and more earthy; it takes place looking out at a sublime landscape rather than seated at an opulent table. It also feels metatextual and cheeky in places, like a knowing look reflected back at ourselves.”
To celebrate the announcement of the new album, singer Abigail Morris and co. have shared the new song ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’ – capturing the essence of the new LP and offering a preview of what is to come. Check it out above, and find the tracklisting and album artwork below.
The ‘From The Pyre’ tracklist is:

Earlier this year, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Lizzie Mayland – now going by L.Mayland – told NME about what fans can expect from upcoming Last Dinner Party music, saying that their latest run of material is inspired by “darker themes” and “processing heavier emotions”.
“I wrote a new song for [my solo] live shows, which is a bit more directly political and angry… and funnily enough, the upcoming album with the band is also quite angry at the world too,” they said, telling us about their debut solo EP ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’. “We’re writing in direct response to what’s happening around us, and honesty is always important for that.”
“It’s a pretty dark time, so I think that is reflected in the music because we’re in touch with the world,” Lizzie Mayland added. “It’s not all sad, though; there are some bops as well! It’s not all downbeat either – they’re fun, angry songs. I won’t go into too much detail, though; you’ll have to wait and see.”
When it was first shared, NME gave ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’ a glowing four-star review, and praised the band as capturing “enough self-belief and magnetism to set them apart from what’s come before.”
“Some may choose to posit the band’s success as an antidote to the intense scrutiny – about their rise, appearance and decision to make music without a ‘serious’ intention – they’ve received in their early career,” it read. “But take all of that away, and you’re still left with fantastic songs that are easy to embrace and return to. It’s hard to miss all the things they’re doing right.”
With the debut album, the former NME Cover stars scored the biggest Number One debut album in nearly a decade and also earned a Mercury Prize nomination.
While at the BRITS 2025 this year, where they took home the award for Best New Artist, the band also dropped some hints to NME about the upcoming album.
“Hopefully new music [is coming soon],” said Morris. “We’re working on it at the moment and it feels really good to be creating again after touring again for so long.”
She continued: “We’re approaching the second album the same way we approached the first album, which is by doing what we want to do without any pressures or expectations. Obviously, there is a little bit of anxiety about the sophomore thing, but we’re just sticking to what we want to do. It’s about doing what feels right for now.” You can watch that interview in full via the video above.
