'The Sopranos' Creator David Chase Wrote For 'The Magician' in the '70s

These days, writer and director David Chase is best known for creating one of the most influential television series of all time — The Sopranos. But just like every behind-the-scenes name that rose through the ranks, Chase once had very humble beginnings. He would first partake in writing for a variety of series in the 1970s, including James Garner’s The Rockford Files and Darren McGavin’s Kolchak: The Night Stalker. For just one month in 1974, the would-be Sopranos creator was thinking about card tricks and mysteries instead of capos and made men.
