The Traitors Is Finally Keeping It Real — with No-Celebs, High Stakes & Pure Treachery

If you’re a diehard The Traitors Fanatic, then this bit of news is exciting.

According to Deadline, NBC will have a new, non-celebrity version of the series set to film soon that will make its debut on broadcast sometime in 2026.

And blessedly, Alan Cumming will host this version of treachery, cloaks, and debauchery as well.

Two things make this news particularly exciting. For one, it’s great that another version of the series will hit the airwaves and actually premiere on NBC.

We’re still upset that the NBA deal results in sports eating up so much of NBC’s lineup. It resulted in us losing some of our favorite series, ranging from Found to The Irrational.

The network also leans heavily toward reality now for any series that doesn’t fall under the Dick Wolf universe.

But if we absolutely must have reality television, at least this news means we’ll get some of the best of the best with the global sensation that is The Traitors franchise.

The series is nothing if not addictive, and the US version of it primarily streams on Peacock, so it doesn’t always reach the broader audience if it’s not one of the dozens of streamers that you subscribe to.

The Traitors on NBC? Oh, that’s a hit.

We’ve seen how massively successful shows like Big Brother and Survivor are on CBS, and The Traitors can bring a similar energy to the fold and spark conversations and discourse that trends regularly and appeals to key demographics.

But what’s even more exciting about this is that the US is finally getting its own non-celebrity version of the show.

If any Traitors fans out there have ever tuned into the UK or Canadian ones, they’d know that the non-celebrities are inarguably more entertaining to watch than the so-called celebrities.

Yes, there’s a certain appeal to seeing familiar faces from all corners of reality television under the roof of one Scottish castle, but there’s also something so “fake” about it, too.

Most of the people there are having fun and playing the game, sure, but they’re also in some unspoken competition to see who can have the most memorable moments and catchphrases.

Reality television stars are their own game, and many of them are playing and leaning into that to stay relevant rather than being motivated strictly by gameplay and the prize.

Much of reality television has sadly fallen into that pattern. Instead of featuring regular people on screen for various reasons, we have seen reality stars transition from one show to the next.

Many of the newer renditions of reality TV stars were influencers seeking another platform to catapult them to stardom.

Yes, even in reality television, it used to make stars, whereas now, they just recycle the same ones.

I look forward to the prospect of having unknown faces and “civilians” who likely need the money, battling it out and playing a truly cutthroat, treacherous game because they have the proper motivations and have so much at stake!

Some of us have been begging for a non-celebrity version of The Traitors for a long time. This is an answer to our cries.

There’s something more exciting and unpredictable about actually tuning into the series to see people we don’t know battle it out for that grand prize.

It would be even better if The Traitors avoided the trap of being one of those overly manufactured reality shows where it’s painfully obvious that everyone is trying to fit into a specific archetype.

Production of this civilian version will start in 2026.

The Traitors Season 4 will air on Peacock in 2026, featuring Real Housewives alum Lisa Rinna, Porsha Williams, Caroline Stanbury, Candiace Dillard Bassett, Dorinda Medley, Big Brother and Survivor alum, Olympic figure skaters Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski, Donna Kelce, and many more.

Peacock has already renewed The Traitors (celebrity version) for a fifth season.

If all goes well, we’ll finally have the two different versions of the show airing on Peacock and NBC, respectively.

The more the better, I say! How about you?
