Vinyl Me, Please will relaunch following acquisition

Vinyl Me, Please has announced its relaunch following an acquisition.

The company had previously confirmed that it had entered liquidation just last month. The Denver Post reported that this followed the complaints filed by several customers against VMP, accusing them of not sending out paid orders. They also alleged the company ignored questions and enquiries, and did not acknowledge requests for refunds.

Now, Vinyl Me, Please is set to relaunch. Following a bidding war, VNYL Inc have become the new owners; chief executive officer Nick Alt told Variety that they would be working to send out unfulfilled orders.

“We saw it as an opportunity to jump in and fix and clean up a lot of the shortcomings that have been pushed onto customers,” he told the outlet. “Over the last year, there’s a lot of people that have bought records that haven’t received them. And so with us jumping in, we’re gonna start fixing that. We’ve already started fixing that, but we really will dig in, in the weeks ahead.”

Joining Alt is Emily Muhoberac, who will act as President of VMP. In their roles at VNYL Inc., both worked on subscription services VinylBox and the VNYL brand, which will continue as sister operations. “This is the third time we’ve done this, and we’ve really built a strong operational playbook to do it,” she said.

“At the end of the day, this is all about getting the records in the hands of the loyal consumers who want them.”

Prior to their liquidation and eventual acquisition, the company had undergone some significant changes. VMP had reportedly scrapped the record-of-the-month club format, lawsuits arising, and staff layoffs.

The Denver Post reported that one subscriber was owed $1,000 (£750) by the company due to missing pre-orders and membership fees. He said it was “especially disheartening” as he has had a membership for over a decade.

In a previous statement, VMP issued customers an apology for the “ongoing service hiccups” and said that the issues stemmed from a “restructuring process”. It then added that missing orders from April would be sent out in May.

Elsewhere, Taylor Swift has landed the biggest-selling new vinyl release of the decade.
