Why Bruce Willis Turned Down the Original 'Lethal Weapon'

Every major Hollywood star has a career-defining role. For Bruce Willis, it is the wisecracking lawman, John McClane. Starring in Die Hard changed the actor’s life forever. Interestingly, he was almost part of a different action franchise. Way before he became an A-lister, Willis was offered the role of Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon but turned it down. The part was offered to Mel Gibson instead, and despite only being made on a $15 million budget, the movie went on to gross $120 million at the box office. Thankfully, Willis got his action hit a year later.
