'Animal Kingdom' Was Inspired by a Real Crime Family
Animal Kingdom(2016), the latest crime thriller to join the Netflix lineup, may have one of the most terrifying fictional families in the Codys. However, the real-life family that inspired the hit series makes the fictional one seem like a walk in the park. The Pettingills, an Australian crime family, inspired the hit TNT crime series, which follows Joshua "J" Cody (Finn Cole) as he moves in with estranged family members following the loss of his mother. He realizes that his grandmother, Janine "Smurf" Cody (Ellen Barkin), funds the lavish lifestyle of his relatives through her criminal dealings. Joshua has no other choice but to participate in the criminal enterprise to survive the wild, dangerous world that has engulfed him.
