“Capitalism is one of the worst things to ever happen to us” – CMAT shares new single and album title track ‘Euro-Country’

CMAT has shared the title track from her upcoming new album ‘Euro-Country’ – you can listen to it below.
The Irish singer-songwriter is due to release her third full-length effort on August 29, following on from 2023’s ‘Crazymad, For Me’ (pre-order/pre-save here).
“I have certain phrases that reverberate around my head over and over again – and ‘Euro-Country’ was one of them,” CMAT explained in a statement. “It’s the title of the album, and the name of the first song on the record.
“And it means three things to me: It’s the kind of country music I make; the fact that Ireland is a European country run by the euro; and that capitalism is one of the worst things to ever happen to us.”
The atmospheric song begins with an Irish-language intro, with CMAT paying homage to her homeland (“My Euro, Euro, Euro Country“), roots and “everything I thought that I could be“.
In the first verse, she sings: “I went away to come back/ Like a prodigal Christian/ I lost a little weight, yeah, and gained it back when I missed him/ I learned a lot from my being here/ How I had to be on my own, yeah/ And now I feel just like Cú Chulainn, I feel like Kerry Katona.”
Later, CMAT admits she “never understood what this way of living could do to me“, adding: “All the mooching ’round shops, and the lack of identity.”
The single is accompanied by an Eilis Doherty-directed music video, which sees CMAT visit the Omni Park shopping centre in the Santry area of north Dublin. She dances in the water fountain there in the visuals – referencing the ‘Euro-Country’ album artwork.
Speaking about her new LP, CMAT said: “‘Euro-Country’ is, I think, the best thing I have ever made. I felt halfway through recording it was the most important record I’ve made for myself… mainly because it was making me go crazy.
“I’m always going to make the work I want to make, because there is a little gremlin in my head that tells me if it’s shit. More than success, there’s a bigger gremlin that wants me to make music that’s really good.”
She added: “She’s brutal and has ruined my life at times, but she is the keeper of my life and she’s always right.”
‘Euro-Country’ will also feature the previously released singles ‘Running/Planning’, ‘Take A Sexy Picture Of Me’ and ‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station’.
CMAT is set to embark on a UK and Ireland headline tour later this year, including huge dates in London and Dublin. Find any remaining tickets here.
Before that run of shows, she’ll make appearances at numerous UK and European festivals – including Green Man, All Points East and Tramlines. Last month, CMAT played a career-making set at Glastonbury 2025.
In a glowing five-star review of her Pyramid Stage show, NME wrote: “CMAT captures the spirit of Glasto and sets the bar for the coming weekend – and her life, it seems.” NME also listed the slot as one of “the most unforgettable moments from Worthy Farm” this year.
Speaking to NME about her forthcoming album in March, CMAT explained: “I spent all of September to December working on it in a hole in New York City. It’s done now. I lost my mind there for a bit, but it sounds great.
“I’m really focusing on songs that transfer well to live music, because my live band is such an important part of what I do. They’re the basis of me becoming a well-known person in the UK who is able to sell tickets to gigs. I wouldn’t be able to do it if it wasn’t for my band, so I wrote an album for both them and me to slay.”
