'Dances with Wolves' Gets Fact Checked in 'Reel Injun' Documentary on Tubi
Receiving critical and commercial acclaim upon release, Dances with Wolves can be credited with revitalizing the Western at the dawn of the 1990s. Despite its success, the film has received a fair amount of criticism. The depiction of indigenous people in Dances with Wolves and other films is addressed in Reel Injun. A documentary currently streaming on Tubi, Reel Injun, chronicles how Native Americans have been depicted as everything from savages to sages and have struggled to be properly represented in feature films. Director Neil Diamond (not that one) examines the history of inaccurate depictions and how several indigenous actors and filmmakers have helped turn the course of inaccuracies that have existed since the beginning of the motion picture.
