Denzel Washington is “tired of movies” and doesn’t watch them anymore

Denzel Washington has confessed he doesn’t watch movies anymore, saying he is “tired” of them.
Having made his first appearance in 1981 comedy Carbon Copy, Washington has gone on to be considered one of the greatest actors of his generation. Coming to prominence in the late ’80s with his Oscar winning performance in Glory, he would go on to make critically adores dramas such as Malcolm X, Philadelphia, Inside Man, and Training Day.
Despite his long association with cinema, in a recent interview with GQ, to promote new film Highest 2 Lowest, he confessed he didn’t watch films anymore. “I don’t watch movies, man. I really don’t,” he said. “I’m just being honest with you! I don’t watch movies! I don’t go to the movies. I don’t watch movies”. Co-star A$AP Rocky asked if it was because he makes them, to which he replied. “Probably. I’m tired of movies. Yeah.”
This provoked a shocked reaction from director Spike Lee, who asked the actor how many movies he has made. “Too many” he replied “I think 50!” IMDb list him at 53 film performances as an actor.
In June, Michael B Jordan shared a piece of advice Denzel Washington gave him regarding his presence online, which the Sinners star claimed helped shape his career. Recently, Ryan Googler confirmed Washington will be joining the Black Panther franchise, in which Jordan previously starred.
Earlier this month, the Gladiator 2 star weighed in on cancel culture, saying he doesn’t believe public support is especially important. “You can’t be cancelled if you haven’t signed up. Don’t sign up” he remarked. “Don’t get me started. My chest started hurting. You know, chest is getting tight talking about it”.
The comments follow an incident in May at a premiere in Cannes, where the actor got into a heated altercation with a press photographer.
