Disney settles dispute with Gina Carano over ‘Mandalorian’ firing

Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company have reached a settlement in their legal dispute with Gina Carano following her firing from The Mandalorian.
The actor previously played Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Star Wars TV show, and after Disney terminated her employment in 2021, she took the company to court in 2024 in an attempt to win back her role, seeking more than $75,000 in damages.
In April of that year, Disney filed to dismiss the case, and gave their reason for the termination: Carano reshared a social media post by a different user which implied the treatment of the Jewish community during the Holocaust was comparable to that of people with differing political views. Disney called the post “abhorrent and unacceptable”.
In July last year, an LA judge denied Disney’s motion to dismiss her lawsuit. Carano reacted to the news by posting on X (formerly Twitter): “I am so grateful for this opportunity. What happened to me was unacceptable, absurd and abusive, among other things. It should not have happened to me, and it should not happen to anyone else moving forward. Let it stop here”.
However, on Thursday (August 7), the two parties ended their dispute with a mutual agreement, the details of which have not yet been disclosed.
I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm @disney @Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force.

In a statement to Variety, production company Lucasfilm (a division of The Walt Disney Company) said: “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies.
“Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
On Thursday morning, Carano shared to X: “I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force. I want to extend my deepest most heartfelt gratitude to Elon Musk, a man I’ve never met, who did this Good Samaritan deed for me in funding my lawsuit. Thank you Mr. Musk and for backing my case and asking for nothing in return”.
She would go on to thank her lawyers, God, and supporters, before saying she was “excited to flip the page and move onto the next chapter”.
Gina Carano is not listed among the cast of the forthcoming spin-off movie The Mandalorian And Grogu, which is scheduled for a May 22 2026 release and stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White.
