Donald Trump says Sydney Sweeney has “HOTTEST AD OUT THERE” while Taylor Swift is “NO LONGER HOT”

Donald Trump has run to the defence of Sydney Sweeney’s controversial jeans ad and used it to bash Taylor Swift as “no longer hot”.

The Euphoria star appears in a new advertising campaign for American Eagle, in which she says she has “great jeans” and “my jeans are blue”, which some have criticised for having supposed racist undertones, celebrating whiteness and invoking eugenics.

It was recently reported that Sweeney was a registered Republican voter in the lead-up to the 2024 US election, according to publicly available records.

Now, the US president has declared his support for Sweeney, writing on Truth Social: “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves’. Go get ‘em Sydney!”

He went on to take the chance to strike out at Swift too, adding: “Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned – Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”

Trump’s public beef with Swift goes back to her backing of Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, when she said “we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos”.

The president then said he “hates” her, later trolling her for being booed at the Super Bowl, which he said meant “the world is healing”.

Doja Cat and Lizzo have both weighed in on the Sweeney controversy, with the former mocking the ad on TikTok, while the latter responded to an image of her in denim with the caption: “My jeans are black…”.

On August 2, American Eagle gave a response to the campaign, insisting “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story.”

Sweeney’s registration follows criticism she received in 2023, after photos from her mother’s 60th birthday party seemingly showed guests wearing MAGA (Make American Great Again) merch in support of the controversial former president and Blue Lives Matter T-shirts, a countermovement to Black Lives Matter in the US.

The actor later described the photos as “misinterpreted”, remarking: “People are so fast to build someone up, and then they love tearing them down.”
