Eddie Murphy’s son just married Martin Lawrence’s daughter

Eddie Murphy has revealed that he and co-star Martin Lawrence are “in-laws”, as Murphy’s son recently married Lawrence’s daughter.

Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence began dating in 2021, and announced their engagement in November 2024 as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Their fathers have worked together on the 1992 comedy Boomerang as well as 1999 film Life, and have been close friends for decades.

Appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Murphy’s former Dreamgirls co-star asked him about the relationship, and he broke the news. “Actually, they got married, like, two weeks ago,” he said. “They went off…. Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them”.

Joking about his new family connection to Lawrence, he said: “Yeah, we’re in-laws, and he doesn’t have to pay for that big wedding now”. Clarifying whether he was involved at all, he revealed: “No, they didn’t have a wedding. They went off and they got married at the church. They just had the two of them and the preacher. They had a quiet little thing. So I think we’ll have like a big party or something”.

Eric is the oldest of Murphy’s 10 children, the youngest of whom was born in 2018. Jasmin is the oldest of Lawrence’s three daughters.

Eddie Murphy will next be seen in the heist comedy movie The Pickup, co-starring Pete Davidson and scheduled for release in August. He will also be returning for a fifth Shrek film, with the original cast members joined by Zendaya, who plays Shrek’s daughter.

In February, a teaser trailer was unveiled, with updated animated for the characters. This new look angered fans online, with some commenting that the change was “straight up disrespectful” and an “AI interpretation of what Shrek 5 could look like”.
