'Eddington' Spoiler Interview: Ari Aster on the Internet, James Woods' Cameo, and That Ending

After his second feature, 2019's Midsommar, Ari Aster took a blank check from A24 and ran with it, delivering an absolutely bonkers odyssey through the anxiety-addled brain of Joaquin Phoenix's eponymous protagonist in Beau Is Afraid. If that film felt like a wild haymaker, then Aster's latest, Eddington, is a muscular uppercut: a pandemic-era western about tensions in a small New Mexico county, where a good ol' boy sheriff (Phoenix again) goes head-to-head with a progressive mayor (Pedro Pascal) over mask mandates amid rising social tensions.
