Emma Watson and another ‘Harry Potter’ star banned from driving on the same day at the same court

Emma Watson and a fellow Harry Potter co-star were handed driving bans on the same day at the same court – find out more below.

Yesterday (July 16), Watson – who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films – and Zoe Wanamaker – who played Quidditch referee and flying broom instructor Madame Hooch – were both banned from driving at the High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court in England, per the BBC.

They were both banned and fined over separate speeding-related offences. For Watson’s offence, she was caught driving at 38 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone in Oxford in July last year. She was fined £1,044. She had already accumulated nine demerit points on her license prior to the offence, and has thus been banned for driving for six months – she will have to apply for a new license before being able to drive again.

Per the BBC, Watson was not present in court for the hearing, and through representatives has agreed to pay the fine.

Similarly, Wanamaker was caught speeding at 46 miles per hour through a 40 miles per hour zone last August. She received an identical fine, and like Watson, has been banned for driving for six months. Wanamaker had similarly accumulated nine demerit points prior to her office.

In other Harry Potter-related news, HBO has revealed the first looks at Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost in costume for the upcoming TV series. McLaughlin will be playing Harry Potter, while Frost plays Hagrid.

The first season of the new TV adaptation began filming earlier this week at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, the same place the movies were shot. It’s set to premiere early next year and the show could span a decade in order to explore some plot lines in more detail than the films.

Joining Frost and McLaughlin in the cast are Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione GrangerJohn Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall.

Last month, Frost told ScreenRant that he was going to be “very protective” over the children cast alongside him in the series. “Look, I’m a dad myself, so I am going to be very protective to the children, and I think that is Hagrid’s — one of the kind of baselines of his relationship with those children. He’s very protective of them, and I honestly can’t wait.”

He added at the time: “I’ve had the opportunity to go and see some sets, and they’re growing a Hagrid beard, and I’m seeing the Sorting Hat, and here are some wands. It’s absolutely amazing. Getting the chance to start to learn Francesca [Gardiner, showrunner]’s script and hanging out with [director] Mark Mylod — that’s the reason I wanted to do it in the first place — to get to retell and to be Hagrid. I get a chance to be Hagrid. It is amazing.”
