‘Euphoria’ star Hunter Schafer reportedly being eyed for ‘The Legend Of Zelda’ movie

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is reportedly being considered for a major role in the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film.
That’s according to industry insider Daniel Richtman, who shared the scoop in a blog entry with his followers. While the blog entry is blocked behind a subscription paywall, it sees Richtman claiming that Schafer is being seriously considered for the role of the titular Princess Zelda.
While no official casting decisions have been made, Schafer being picked to play Princess Zelda wouldn’t be surprising. Prior to the film being announced, fans have been championing Schafer for the role. After the film was officially announced in 2023, she even revealed that she had seen the viral fan-castings and suggested that she’d be keen on the role.
“That would be so cool,” Schafer said at the time. “I love the game, personally. I played it as a kid and I still play it now. Who knows! That would be pretty cool.”
In March this year, progress on the Legend of Zelda film picked up speed, when it was announced that the live-action adaptation will be released in cinemas on March 26, 2027.
The Legend Of Zelda film will be produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, as well as Avi Arad, who produced the Spiderman movies. As previously announced, the film will be directed by Wes Ball, the film-maker behind The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Schafer is currently busy working on the long-awaited third season of HBO’s hit teen drama Euphoria alongside Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi. No exact air date has been announced for the new season, although executives revealed it should arrive in early 2026.
Her co-star Sweeney has also since promised that it will be the most “unhinged” season of Euphoria yet. Season three will also see the introduction of a new character played by singer Rosalía, who recently discussed the project, calling her first foray into acting “really inspiring”.
Earlier this year, Hunter Schafer spoke out about the “harsh reality” of US President Donald Trump‘s anti-trans executive order, revealing her new passport now lists her gender as ‘Male’. Trump’s executive order declares that the US government will only recognise two genders: male and female.
“Trans people are beautiful,” Schafer said on social media. “We are never going to stop existing, I am never going to stop being trans, a letter on a passport can’t change that. And fuck this administration. I don’t really have an answer on what to do about this but I feel it was important to share. This is real. So um yeah, fuck.”
