David Corenswet as Superman

James Gunn’s Superman is finally in cinemas, but what songs are on the soundtrack? Scroll down to find the full list.

The latest big screen reboot of the iconic DC Comics character arrives in cinemas around the world on Friday (July 11), with Twisters and House Of Cards actor David Corenswet stepping into the title role.

Superman is intended to be the first film in the new DC Universe and has been written and directed by Guardians Of The Galaxy’s James Gunn. Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor, with the film telling the story of Superman’s attempts to reconcile his heritage with his new human family.

It has been met with an initially positive response, with early reactions calling it “exceptional” and “an awesome achievement”

In a three-star reviewNME wrote: “To give Gunn his due, he crafts a world that’s as close to the DC Comics Superman that we’ve ever seen, with characters like the shapeshifting Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan) adding real texture. It’s a promising start-point to his plans for the DC Universe.”

“And while the good-versus-evil plot does little to push the envelope, the idea of Superman being an alien peacekeeper is surely going to stir up political controversies back in Gunn’s MAGA-homeland. Mainly, though, just give us more Krypto – this canine really is super.”

In addition to an original score by John Murphy (28 Days Later, Kick-Ass) and David Fleming (The Last Of Us, Mr. And Mrs. Smith), it also includes three notable needle drop moments.

During the film, Sophie Madeleine’s ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ makes an appearance, as does Noah And The Whale’s 2007 indie hit ‘5 Years Time’.

There is a fictional punk band, The Mighty Crabjoys, that are referenced in the film, having first appeared in Gunn’s animated series Creature Commandos

In addition, over the closing credits, Iggy Pop’s deep cut collaboration with Teddybears, ‘Punkrocker’, plays. The track appeared on the 2006 album ‘Soft Machine’, having appeared without Iggy’s vocal contributions on the band’s 2000 album ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Highschool’.
