‘Ghostbusters’ actor Harris Yulin dies, aged 87

Ghostbusters, Scarface and Ozark star Harris Yulin has died, aged 87.

Yulin died on Tuesday (June 10) following a cardiac arrest in New York, his family and manager, Sue Leibman, announced via Deadline.

One of his most memorable roles was in Brian De Palma’s Scarface in 1983, in which he played corrupt police officer Mel Bernstein alongside Al Pacino‘s gangster drug lord Tony Montana.

He also played Judge Stephen Wexler in Ghostbusters II and he was more recently known as the character Buddy Dieker in the Netflix crime drama Ozark.

After making his stage debut in New York, performing in Next Time I’ll Sing To You in 1963 and his film debut in 1971’s Doc, Yulin acted in over 100 roles during the course of his career.

These included playing a corrupt national security advisor in the Harrison Ford movie Clear And Present Danger in 1994 before acting alongside Rowan Atkinson in the 1997 Bean movie.

He also landed roles as a secret service agent in 2001’s Rush Hour 2 and Detective Doug Roselli in Training Day that same year.

On TV, other than Ozark, Yulin had memorable roles in Veep, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, And Just Like That, Billions, Divorce and WIOU, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Frasier and Entourage.

He was Emmy-nominated for his work on Frasier in 1996.

Prior to his death, Yulin was about to to start work on the MGM+ series American Classic, starring Kevin Kline and Laura Linney.

Yulin also directed and taught at The Juilliard School in New York for eight years, and at The Graduate School of the Arts at Columbia University and at HB Studios in Manhattan.

In the early 1970s, Yulin had a high-profile relationship with actress Faye Dunaway before marrying fellow actor Gwen Welles from 1975 until her death in 1993. He is survived by his second wife, Kristen Lowman, who he married in 2005.
