Glen Powell’s ex says Sydney Sweeney relationship rumours made “an ass out of me”

'Anyone But You' starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney

Glen Powell’s ex-partner, Gigi Paris, has spoken about their breakup, implying that the fabricated relationship between him and Sydney Sweeney while promoting Anyone But You pushed her to end their time together.

Powell and Sweeney co-starred in the 2023 romantic comedy, which became a surprise box office hit and launched the pair as lead actors. Much of the attention surrounding the film stemmed from speculation that the stars were together in real life, something Powell later admitted they played on in order to help publicise the movie.

“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” Powell told The New York Times last year. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully”.

Appearing on the Too Much podcast, Paris addressed the situation and shared her side. Powell was not mentioned by name, but all but confirmed in the episode’s description, promising a discussion on “the very public unravelling of (Paris’) four-year relationship with a certain A-list celebrity ex”.

“I just wanted respect, especially if it’s gonna be public,” she said, adding: “Like, don’t make an ass out of me … just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know?”

“And at the end of the day, it was like, well, work comes first” she continued. “And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs… It wasn’t (gaslighting), it was just, ‘This is what I have to do for my job’”.

Paris, who found fame as a model and designer, said she knew it was over when she flew to Australia to visit him during filming and was told to stay away. “He called and said, ‘The producers and I have discussed that I think it’s best that you don’t come to visit’” she recalled. “And that’s when I hung up”.

“I was like, this motherfucker is done to me,” she explained, “That phone call really is what broke me. I thought we had hope, like, maybe when I got there that, like, things would maybe get better. But once I got that phone call, I just knew it was done. I had lost whoever that person was that I loved”.

Glen Powell would continue his success on-screen with a lead role in blockbuster Twisters, and is soon to be seen in Edgar Wright’s sci-fi The Running Man. Recently, the actor called into his own lookalike contest to promise film cameo to winner’s family.
