Jeremy Renner opens up about near-death snow plough accident: “I was brought back and I was so pissed off”

Jeremy Renner has said he was “pissed off” to have been brought back to life after his snow plough accident in 2023.
On New Year’s Day in January 2023, the Hawkeye star was left in a critical condition after being run over by his 14,000-pound PistenBully snowcat. He was airlifted to hospital, where he underwent several operations to treat his injuries.
He sustained 38 broken bones and multiple internal injuries, but after 12 days in intensive care, he was able to begin a course of extensive physical therapy and he now lives with metal reinforcements in his body.
In a new interview with Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, he has reflected on the moment of the accident: “It’s a great relief is all I can say. It’s a wonderful, wonderful relief to be removed from your body. It is the most exhilarating peace you could ever feel.”
Describing the experience, he added: “You don’t see anything but what’s in your mind’s eye. Like, you’re the atoms of who you are, the DNA, your spirit. It’s the highest adrenaline rush, but the peace that comes with it, it’s magnificent. It’s so magical.”
“I didn’t want to come back. I remember, and I was brought back and I was so pissed off. I came back, I’m like, ‘Aww!’”
Recalling being revived, he continued: “I saw the eyeball again, I’m like, ‘Oh, shit, I’m back.’ Saw my legs. I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s gonna hurt later.’ I’m like, ‘All right, let me continue to breathe.’”
“It makes me – a man that didn’t want to come back – really be able to be back here and live it on my terms as the captain of my own ship. And get on it or off it, I don’t give a fuck. I’m going to live life on my own terms and for nobody else. [It’s] very clear. The white noise is ripped away.”
On the second anniversary of the accident in January, he thanked the staff that saved his life. “Thank you to each and every nurse, doctor, first responder… I literally owe you my life. All my heart goes out to my beautiful, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbours) who jumped to my aid and endured the chaos for 45 long minutes on the icy asphalt New Years morning. I’m so sorry all the haunting images I imprinted on you all (I’ll spare you all from the meat grinding images )….”
He is set to star in the third instalment of the Knives Out series Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery later this year alongside Daniel Craig, Alien: Romulus’ Cailee Spaeny, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Josh O’Connor and All Of Us Strangers’ Andrew Scott.
