Johnny Depp could return for more Pirates Of The Caribbean films, according to the producer of the series.

After starring as eccentric pirate Jack Sparrow in the early 2000s Disney adventure films, Depp was nominated for Best Actor for his performance in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

He went on to lead our further sequels between 2006 and 2017; however, a legal battle saw him fall out of favour with Hollywood studios.

In 2018, his ex-wife Amber Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in which she alleged she was domestically abused by the actor.

Two years later, Depp lost a libel case in the UK against The Sun for referring to him as a “wife beater” in their reporting. The situation led to Depp being dropped from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, and the actor has not appeared in a big-budget studio film since.

In 2022, Johnny Depp won a defamation case against Heard, awarding him $10million (£8million) in compensatory damages and $5million in punitive damages. The jury found that Heard’s statements about her marriage were “false” and that she acted with “actual malice”.

Yesterday (August 12), Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly that he’s open to Depp returning for a planned reboot of the franchise. The new film is said to combine a new cast with characters from the original movies, which Bruckheimer hopes will include Jack Sparrow.

“If (Depp) likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” he said of the actor’s involvement. “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know”.

The Hollywood mogul has previously commented on the situation: “It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it, I love him.

“He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist, and he’s a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page; that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow”.

In terms of the progress of the upcoming movies, he confirmed: “We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close”.

Last month, Johnny Depp revealed that the studio behind the Fantastic Beasts films wanted him to “retire” after Heard’s accusations emerged.
