Over 400 of David Lynch’s personal items are going on auction

Fans of the late film icon David Lynch will soon be able to pieces of film history from the director’s personal collection – find out more below.

Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies have announced an upcoming auction, dubbed The David Lynch Collection, that’ll feature over 400 items from Lynch’s personal assemblage. The collection will go on auction from June 18 onwards via Julien’s Auction’s website and in person at their Gardena auction house.

Among the items listed for auction are several holy grail items for fans including the esteemed filmmaker’s personalised director’s chair, his very own 35mm print of Eraserhead, the original rugs from Twin Peaks, his home espresso machine, a pair of taxidermy deer heads, prop menus and scripts from Mulholland Drive, numerous vintage film and video cameras, other filming equipment, an electric guitar, an acoustic drum kit, his personal collection of vinyl records – some of which were signed to him, artworks, furniture and more.

Julien’s Managing Director of Entertainment Catherine Williamson said in a press statement: “These historical and cherished pieces reflecting David Lynch’s singular artistic vision, as well as his passions and pursuits ranging from his director’s chair, espresso machine to his guitar, record collections and Twin Peaks style decor, come directly from the home of the visionary artist whose enigmatic films stirred our most imaginative and collective surreal dreams.”

The beloved late director’s death was announced by his family on social media earlier this year (January 16) – he was aged 78. Lynch, who is celebrated for films like Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and the iconic TV series Twin Peaks, revealed his emphysema diagnosis last year, which was caused by smoking for most of his life. In November, he shared that he required supplemental oxygen to walk.

Tributes have poured in from all over the entertainment industry since Lynch’s passing. Legendary director Steven Spielberg described him as “an original and unique voice”, recalling their work together on The Fabelmans.

In NME’s tribute to the late director, Mark Beaumont wrote that the “very word ‘Lynchian’ – denoting a kind of carnivalesque dark surrealism; sometimes fantastical, sometimes macabre, sometimes dreamlike, often eerily everyday – will forever pay tribute to the work of one of cinema’s finest ever auteurs.”
