Robert De Niro Starred in the Greatest Baseball Movie of All Time

In 1978, award-winning Italian actor Robert De Niro played a taxi driver with a rapidly declining mental state. Just a few years later, he was a Vietnam vet who struggled with civilian life due to the horrors he saw abroad. The grittier roles for one Robert De Niro just kept layering on soon after, with a portrayal of championship boxer Jake LaMotta in 1980's Raging Bull, a psychopathic maniac in 1991’s Cape Fear, as well as the smorgasbord of mafia members found in Once Upon a Time in America, Goodfellas, and A Bronx Tale. With a career layout like this, you would probably be surprised to find out that the man gave himself to more emotional stories and characters at one point or another.
