Nintendo has revealed the details of the paid Switch 2 upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree and fans aren’t impressed.

Mario Party Jamboree was praised as “the best entry” in the long-running series when it launched back in 2024. However due to the lack of updates, some people quickly got bored of playing the same seven boards in the multiplayer title.

Nintendo has now confirmed a special Switch 2 upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree will launch later this week. Existing users can pay £16.99 for the update while newcomers can buy the Switch 2 version of Jamboree for £66.99 when it launches on July 24.

The Switch 2 version of Mario Party Jamboree will feature 20 new minigames which will utilise the console’s new mouse and voice controls while new ‘Tag-Team’, ‘Frenzy’ and ‘Bowser Live’ game modes will also be added. A new co-op mode called ‘Carnival Coaster’ will also be included in the Switch 2 upgrade with Jamboree players also able to take advantage of GameShare and GameChat.

However a lot of fans aren’t impressed by the paid update. “None of this is worth an extra £17,” wrote one X user. “I’ll get this as soon as there’s a new board and non-gimmick minigames,” said another. “I don’t understand adding in all this trash instead of making a couple more boards,” said a third.

Both The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom received paid Switch 2 upgrades that dramatically improved the look and performance of the games, while the Switch 2 version of Kirby And The Forgotten Land included a new story – ‘Star Crossed World’.

Released later this year, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also have a dedicated Switch 2 version that will feature improved graphics. Nintendo has released free upgrades for a number of original Switch games that take advantage of the more powerful console.
