The Weeknd has teased a surprise appearance at Coachella 2025 this weekend, with plans for a “Ferris wheel takeover” at the festival.

The second weekend of this year’s California event is due to kick off tomorrow (Friday April 18), with headline sets from Lady Gaga, Green Day and Post Malone. Other performers include Charli XCX and Travis Scott, as well as an intimate set from Ed Sheeran.

Taking to Instagram last night (April 16), The Weeknd – who headlined Coachella in 2022 and 2018 – told fans that he would be hosting a “Ferris wheel takeover” at this year’s edition. “See you in the desert,” he added, tagging Coachella in the post.

The official poster suggests that the event will be in support of the singer’s new psychological thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow, which is due for release on May 16. In January, the Canadian artist (aka Abel Tesfaye) dropped his sixth studio album of the same name.

On Instagram Stories, Tesfaye shared a photograph of a huge Hurry Up Tomorrow billboard in the desert. He captioned the image: “Chella.”

Further details about The Weeknd’s plans for Coachella 2025 are not yet known. You can see the posts below.

At Coachella 2023, The Weeknd appeared as a special guest during Metro Boomin’s star-studded set.

The first weekend of Coachella 2025 offered plenty of surprises too, with the likes of Lorde, Billie Eilish and Brian May all popping up on stage. Travis Scott also debuted two unreleased songs during his set, and broke out a Drake mash-up.

Directed by Trey Edward Shults and co-written and co-produced by The Weeknd, Hurry Up Tomorrow follows a fictionalised version of Tesfaye, who is “plagued by insomnia” and becomes embroiled in an “odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence”.

The film stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan alongside The Weeknd – the latter of whom scored the project with his frequent collaborator Daniel Lopatin.

Last month saw The Weeknd announce a second Las Vegas stadium show for his ‘After Hours Til Dawn’ North American tour. See the full list of dates and find any remaining tickets here.
