Two men broke into Macklemore’s house and “bear-sprayed” his nanny in what they believe is a “politically-motivated” attack

Macklemore ‘s house was broken into, with jewellery, watches and shoes stolen – according to local news sources and police reports.
A nanny, who was taking care of three children inside the home in Seattle, was also sprayed by bear mace and assaulted by two suspects, the reports state.
According to The Seattle Times, police were called to Macklemore’s house during the early hours of Saturday (June 7) morning. Two male suspects allegedly entered the property through an unlocked patio door and sprayed the nanny in the face with the bear mace.
One of the suspects then allegedly helped her clean her eyes before asking: “Where are the jewels, b****?”. According to reports, they then raided the house and filled bags with items including jewellery, watches and shoes.
The two suspects then reportedly assaulted the nanny and stole her phone. She then escaped by biting one of the men’s hands and then running out of the property through a bathroom until she was let into a neighbour’s home and called the police.
The house was reported as being owned by someone “high-profile”, but Macklemore was identified through property records. It was not specified whether Macklemore, real name Benjamin Haggerty, was present in the property during the break-in.
The three children were put to bed before the incident and were safely removed by police. According to the report, the nanny “believed the crime may have been politically motivated for some reason.”
NME reached out to representatives of Macklemore for comment.
Macklemore has recently made headlines for his pro-Palestine stance, and last year, he was dropped from Las Vegas’ Neon City Festival lineup after making an anti-America remark at a pro-Palestine festival.
Last year, Macklemore released pro-Palestinian tracks ‘Hind’s Hall’ and ‘Hind’s Hall 2′, and back in 2023 the rapper was invited to give an impromptu speech in Washington, D.C., where he spoke about the Israel-Palestine conflict.
“They told me to be quiet. They told me to do my research, to go back, that it’s too complex to say something, right? To be silent in this moment. In the last three weeks, I’ve gone back and I’ve done some research. And I am teachable. I don’t know enough. But I know enough that this is a genocide,” he said.
Last year, while performing during his set at the Palestine Will Live Forever Festival in Seattle, he urged attendees to chant “fuck America”. He then addressed his actions in an Instagram post, sharing that he wished he had “been in a better place with my grief and anger”.
