‘Witcher’ fans excited for new game are being targeted by scammers

A number of fans excited for The Witcher 4 are being targeted by scammers offering early access to the game.
The official Witcher social media account released a statement yesterday (April 16) warning fans about the scam. “Recently, we’ve been getting reports from some community members that they’ve been invited to a beta test of The Witcher 4 — this is a scam,” it started.
“We’ve been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using. Remember: professional monster slayers don’t fall for scams; they see right through them and slay them!”
Developers went on to remind fans that news about potential early access tests for The Witcher 4 would be shared via their website.

The Witcher 4 was officially revealed at the end of last year. The follow-up to 2015’s The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will be the start of a “new era” for the franchise, with previous protagonist Geralt being replaced by his adopted daughter Ciri as she sets out to become a “professional monster slayer”.
In January, Geralt’s voice actor Doug Cockle said he was “excited” about the changes The Witcher 4 was making. “ I always thought that continuing the saga, but shifting to Ciri would be a really, really interesting move for all kinds of reasons.” Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga went on to say that it was a “very organic, very logical choice”.
However last month the team behind The Witcher 4 confirmed the game won’t be released anytime soon. During an earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz said CD Projekt weren’t going to announce the release date. “All we can share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026.”
Elsewhere in the earnings call, CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed that they wouldn’t be using generative AI to create The Witcher 4 due to “tricky” legal situations that could occur.
In other news Kelley Heyer, a TikTok creator who came up with the viral dance trend for Charli XCX’s ‘Apple’, is reportedly suing Roblox after the choreography was added to Dress To Impress without her permission.
